USA  Asia Week New York • Homage to Asian Art 
Asia Week NY
Asia Week New York 2014 is a nine-day celebration of Asian art throughout metropolitan New York, with non-stop exhibitions, auctions and special events presented by 47 leading international Asian art specialists, five major auction houses, and 19 museums and cultural institutions. The week kicked off on 14 March with the highly-anticipated Open House Weekend, and will close on 22 March. Amanresorts in China and South Asia is the presenting sponsor of this event which celebrates and affirms the importance of Asian art.

Recognised as the last surviving Buddhist Himalayan Kingdom, Bhutan is true to its cultural, spiritual and social traditions. This May (22-31), Amankora guests have the opportunity to embark on a spiritual and physical journey through the country’s western and central valleys. Using the simple Buddhist technique of ‘mindfulness’, Mala Barua will guide guests on a nine-night kora (journey) aimed at embracing the inner silence reflected in Bhutan’s natural beauty and Buddhist teachings. The principles of mindfulness will help guests to experience the pristine environment, culture and spirituality of Bhutan in a more intimate and personal way, while staying in four of Amankora’s five lodges.

INDONESIA  Central Java • Cradle of Culture

Considered the cradle of Javanese culture, Central Java is rich in history, creative arts and temples. The Buddhist sanctuary of Borobudur is one of its most sacred places, and is the centre of the upcoming Waisak festival (15 May) celebrating the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha. On this auspicious day, a procession of approximately 15,000 participants winds its way from Mendut Temple to Borobudur. Overlooking this 9th-century sanctuary, Amanjiwo is surrounded by verdant rice paddies, rural villages and dramatic mountains – a setting seemingly made for reflection. From 18 June to 2 July this year, the resort will host His Eminence the 9th Neyphug Trulku Rinpoche. During his two weeks at Amanjiwo, the Rinpoche will hold a complimentary one-hour meditation session every morning, as well as offering private one-on-one sessions.

A nature reserve in the Flores Sea, Moyo Island is a verdant jungle fringed by white-sand beaches. Supporting a vast array of bird and wildlife including 15 species of tropical butterflies, the island is also home to a deer sanctuary for the indigenous rusa deer. This has recently welcomed two new fawns which can be spotted wandering through Amanwana’s camp along with almost 20 adults. The camp also runs a turtle hatchery to help conserve the local turtle population, and provides access to some of the most pristine reefs in the world. Amanikan is Amanwana’s 32-metre coastal cruiser featuring three cabins, lounge and dining areas, and extensive dive facilities. Guests can embark on multi-day cruises aboard Amanikan to destinations including Komodo National Park and Raja Ampat.

Skiers and snowboarders have enjoyed incredible powder in the USA and the Alps this season. Over the US season in Jackson Hole, over 11 metres of powder has fallen, while in the French Alps, Les Trois Vallées and Courchevel 1850 in particular has reported impressive snowfall as well. Just a few more weeks remain to take advantage of these extraordinary conditions, with the US and French ski seasons closing on 6 April. Situated atop East Gros Ventre Butte in Wyoming, Amangani offers a Ski Lounge in the alpine Teton Village above Jackson Hole, while Le Mélézin is situated directly on Courchevel’s Bellecôte Piste.
